ARTIST STATEMENT
Art is a survival instinct and loyal friend. Introspective conversations with this reliable companion make it possible to navigate the complexities of life. Existence can be a thick fog of abstract questions. Often, you call out for answers, but all you receive in return is an echo offering new, equally abstract questions.
What if the truth of my existence is suffering?
Line becomes form. Chaos, confusion, pain, and the unknown manifest as colors. The air begins to clear with each creation, bringing a sigh of relief. But the exhale thickens the fog and spawns another question.
What if the existence of suffering exposes truth?
Process is a teacher and guide. It clears the mind and provides a deeper understanding of life's difficult questions.
Art is choosing not to be lost but to lose yourself.

Abel was born in Augsburg, Germany, and currently resides in the United States at the foot of the beautiful Wasatch Mountains in Salt Lake City, Utah. Abel earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Utah State University, graduating summa cum laude. His creative reflexes display themselves in a variety of visual art forms and mediums, ranging from mixed-media abstract sculpture to traditional oil painting.
“My creative side has never been able to limit itself to a particular genre. This has been both liberating and challenging.”
Abel devoted nine years of his professional life to art education, teaching students of all ages to hone their technical skills while developing their passion and purpose. He has a deeply personal understanding of the impact art can have on a community, and is honored to have shared his work with the public in a variety of galleries and forums. When asked about the future, Abel anticipates that community will become an even bigger driving force in his artistic endeavors.
“Community is such an important part of art. It gives everyone involved the opportunity to be a teacher, and student, with the power to inspire.”
